Be the Best You Can Be The Newsletter of the Natural Leadership Centre: February 07 Achieve greater goals than you currently imagine possible In this newsletter:
‘Why talk to a guru?’ is a Christmas bestseller
Just before Christmas, I had a call from my publishers: Perfect Publishers, to congratulate me on being their ‘best-selling’ author. I was chuffed, as you can imagine, and the much-larger-than-I-expected cheque that followed really helped me to have a happy Christmas. If you haven’t already done so, you can get your copy here: Order book or explore it here: Explore book Latest book review: Gareth Chick came first. “I cannot remember the last time a book has so surprised and delighted me. It is simply a profound work that deserves to be at the heart of the modern day search for spiritual meaning in a ridiculously fast-paced and rational world” – Gareth Chick, Director, Spring Partnerships “Paul Hunting has written an extraordinary book. I read it because I was interested to know just how 'horse whispering' worked, and Paul's explanations are both logical and illuminating. The whole subject is deeper and more inspiring than I had ever imagined. However the real unexpected treat from 'Guru' is sharing such an intimate and incredibly open journey through the author's beliefs, resulting in a truly extraordinary learning. I learned things from 'Guru' that were not only unexpected but hugely intellectually and spiritually challenging. Paul has been willing in this book to open himself and lay himself bare to a judgemental world; to share his thought processes and his own spiritual journey, revealing along the way a goliath of a modern day spiritual leader - at one turn superhuman, at the next flawed and vulnerable. All of this comes with a wrapping of humour which is refreshingly acerbic, if at times the punning is almost too much to bear. There is also an amazing enlightenment for the reader on the works of Shakespeare and the Bible. I had always held the former in high regard, so I enjoyed Paul Hunting's Shakespearian references as reminders of old and trusted friends, but I had always scorned the bible as pretty irrelevant to my life. Not any longer. I cannot remember the last time that a book has so surprised and delighted me. It is simply a profound work that deserves to be at the heart of the modern day search for spiritual meaning in a ridiculously fast paced and rational world, where people are quick to judge each other, and where we are all too often trying desperately to be someone we are not, and making ourselves ill and unhappy in the process. Paul Hunting has provided something akin to a text book for self awareness. Now I guess its up to us.” Gareth Chick, 2006

From the horse’s mouth: coaching tip for a Happy New Year. Tip: For a happy New year, don’t drag the old one(s) around with you. Happiness and a sense of joy and freedom needs a space to come into: the present moment. If we keep that space full of unacknowledged achievements, piles of junk and paper, regrets and resentments, etc what chance do we have of feeling good and having new ideas? It’s easy for horses to live in the present, because, unlike us, they don’t make ego judgments, store things they no longer need, nor do they blame others for their feelings, make up perfect reasons, excuses, lies, excuses and rationalisations. We can learn the secret of happy new years from them by doing likewise. Difficult, painful, uncomfortable, scary as it may be, if we acknowledge fully what we and others have contributed to us, forgive ourselves and others for mistakes, misunderstandings, stupidities and even malicious intentions and actions; then we become as free as horses are to enjoy the here and now. The new vision for The Natural Leadership Centre has been inspired by some friends and colleagues in Finland. Like them, we are now looking to expand by joining forces with like-minded partners who want to synergise to create a centre for the complementary disciplines of:
